WAYNE County lies in the northeastern portion of the State; is bounded by Cedar and Dixon Counties on the north, by Dixon and the Winnebago and Omaha Reservations on the east, by Cuming and Stanton Counties on the south, and by Pierce County on the west.
Wayne County, lying on the divide between the Elkhorn and the Logan valleys, is mainly upland.
MINER, Sheriff, was born in Wayne County, New York, in the fall of 1843, came to Jackson County, Michigan, in the fall of 1852, engaged in farming until 1862.

Wayne County's courthouse, called the "Castle in the Cornfield," was built in only four months, 1899.
The first settlers to this part of Nebraska arrived in the spring of 1869 from Lee County, IL, and were joined by a second group in 1870.
By February 1884 the influx of families provided Wayne with a population of 200, enabling it to be incorporated as a village.

An interesting part of Wayne County's history centers around the events which led up to the construction of its present courthouse, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Wayne County was organized by proclamation of Gov. David Butler in the fall of 1870, and named after Revolutionary War Gen. Anthony Wayne.
One of the stipulations was that the Wayne Town Hall Association would be required to provide rent-free for five years a building that was suitable to house county offices, courts and records.
