A county lying east of Wayne in Alabama still bears the name and was part of the old county of Washington.
In 1802 Washington county was divided and that portion of it lying west of the present boundary line between Alabama and Mississippi became Wayne county.
In 1809 the county of Wayne was organized by Legislative act with its present northern, eastern, and southern boundaries, but extending westward to Pearl River.

The act establishing the county provided that the first court should be held at the home of Josiah Sasser at which time the justices were to decide on a place for all subsequent courts until a courthouse could be erected.
In 1787 an act was passed establishing Waynesborough on the west side of the Neuse on the land of Andrew Bass "where the courthouse now stands." In 1845, and again in 1847, acts were passed moving the courthouse from Waynesborough to Goldsboro provided the people voted for the same.

She is buried in Sandhill Cemetary in Wayne County, died in 1880, also known as "Sholotie".
Both of them are buried at the Old Lee Cemetery off of Old River Road in Waynesboro, Mississippi.
