NOW with Bill Moyers. Politics & Economy. Losing Ground: Global Inequality | PBS
According to recent studies, the top one percent — the wealthiest among us — are getting richer and richer.
The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OCED) has found the United States to be the most unequal society of all industrialized nations.
Also included are the percentage of total disposable income held by the wealthiest (top 30%) and poorest (bottom 30%) of each nation's population.

A look within the lives and taxes of the U.S.’s ‘wealthiest 1 percent’=TheHill.com=   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-17)
No discussion of fiscal policy seems complete without mention of the “wealthiest 1 percent.” Frequently negative references to the group conjure images of a shady cabal with a secret handshake and meetings at “the club” to discuss world affairs over snifters of brandy.
According to fiscal liberals and critics of the Bush tax plan, the wealthiest 1 percent are recipients of undeserved benefits and preferential treatment.
According to many economic conservatives capitalists, the wealthiest 1 percent are victims of a system that unfairly taxes success and ignores opportunities for economic growth.

Estate Tax Repeal: A Costly Windfall for the Wealthiest Americans - Rev. 2/6/01
Repealing the estate tax is costly, reducing revenues for both the federal government and states, and would provide a massive windfall for some of the country's wealthiest families.
This means about half of the estate tax was paid by the estates of the wealthiest one of every 1,000 people who died.
State pickup tax revenues would likely grow in tandem with the federal revenues, and the revenue loss to states when the repeal would be fully in effect in 2010 would approach $9 billion a year.

 Why Bush Ignores the Numbers
The share of wealth which went to the wealthiest citizens declined in the early 1940s and stayed low for 40 years, years characterized by the rise of the great American middle class.
In 1915, before the establishment of the income tax, the very wealthiest families earned 400 times as much as the average family.
In his recently approved tax cut, President Bush gave 37 percent of the new round of cuts to the wealthiest 1 percent — and no tax cut at all to 50 million families, 36 percent of all households.

In Defense of the Wealthiest One Percent by Robert W. Tracinski -- Capitalism Magazine   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-17)
The wealthiest 1 percent -- a tiny group of people -- pay more than $240 billion per year, nearly one-third of all federal income taxes.
If we include the wealthiest 10 percent, the whole group forks over more than $460 billion, roughly two-thirds of all income taxes.
But he should also fully embrace the reason he gave during his campaign: cutting taxes for the wealthiest 1 percent is the right thing to do.

Ivana Trump, a leader of the movement to grant the nation's wealthiest one percent minority status.
Calling the current system of federal support for only certain minority groups "grossly unfair," the marchers demanded that the nation's wealthiest one percent be afforded the same benefits other minorities enjoy.
Lassiter also stressed the importance of intervention for at-risk one-percenters, many of whom are driven to low self-esteem and self-destructive behavior by the outside world's great indifference to their plight.

Total Life Success Forums - The Wealthiest Moment
The wealthiest moment in a day is the moment that you allow yourself to sit for a while in a peaceful environment; in a comfortable position; and let your mind flow.
It is therefore not a frivolous advice to try practicing this moment if you never did before, regardless of the enormity of your current responsibilities, projects, or emotional pressures.
The wealthiest moment of your day, whether it lasts 15 minutes or an hour, may not immediately lead to solutions for your concerns but it will help you perceive things in their relativity: oversee the forest that is your current life and arrange your issues according to importance.

Claims such as "the wealthiest m percent of the population will receive x% of the income tax cut" are frequently flung about with little explanation of how m and x were obtained.
The situation regarding TY 2002 income tax reduction may be honestly characterized as: "the wealthiest one-half percent will get 10% of the cut" or "the wealthiest 2% will get 14.5% of the cut".
It was simply meant to be a barometer for when someone makes a claim about how much of bushlet income tax cut #1 went to "the wealthiest m percent" (and with campaign 2004 gearing up, we're going to be hearing these things with increasing frequency).

According to a survey conducted by the magazine, more than 100 of these individuals — roughly three-quarters of the wealthiest individuals in the country — give to charitable causes through their own private foundations.
In addition to the tax deductions they receive, Forbes cites the appeal of having long-term control over their charitable dollars as a prime reason why the wealthy choose to create foundations.
