  Web Services Architecture
We distinguish a number of things in their relation to a service: a service has an owner; a service must be realized by a (software) provider agent; a requester agent may interact with a provider agent; and a provider agent has an owner (the provider entity).
Web services are inherently about computer-to-computer interactions between requester and provider agents; yet they are also ultimately deployed in human service because the requester and provider agents act on behalf of their owners.
Furthermore, the primary role of a discovery service is to facilitate the discovery of Web services.

Web Services Discovery - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
After Web services are created and published in Web services registries such as UDDI or Web Services Inspection Language (WSIL) documents, the service users or consumers need to search Web services manually or automatically.
In fact, in a business solution, it is very normal to search multiple UDDI registries or WSIL documents and then aggregate the returned result by using filtering and ranking techniques, which are used in Google today.

Web services are applications whose logic and functions are accessible using standard Internet protocols and data formats such as Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and Extensible Markup Language (XML).
This is one of the simplest forms of a Web service in that the request is filled almost immediately, with the request and response being parts of the same method call.

Cover Pages: Microsoft Releases Web Services Dynamic Discovery Specification (WS-Discovery).
Services may be organized in a hierarchical scope, and clients can query for services by type as well as scope without heavy administrative costs.
To find a target service by the type of the target service, a scope in which the target service resides, or both, a client sends a probe message to a multicast group; target services that match the probe send a response directly to the client.
While the definition of a discovery proxy-specific protocol is beyond the scope of this specification, it is expected that any such protocol would define search messages clients send directly to the discovery proxy rather than to a multicast group.

A service may be explicitly instantiated using some implementation-specific functionality or it may be implicitly instantiated with an operation in its behavior that is meant to be an instantiation operation.
The initiating service clearly needs to know the port type and binding since it must know the abstract shape and wire format of the messages to be sent and received, as well as their intent.
A service instance that represents a participant in such an interaction must have the means to maintain the state of its view of the interaction, in particular the data accumulated during the history of the interaction.

Writing a Java program that creates a complete web service registration to a UDDI registry requires a lot of effort: an understanding of SOAP, accessing a UDDI registry using the correct SOAP messages, and ensuring that WSDL documents are placed in the correct locations in a UDDI registry.
