WebCore - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
WebCore is a framework developed by Apple, and licensed under the LGPL, to provide an HTML layout engine for Mac OS X.
WebCore combines the open source KHTML layout engine developed by the KDE project, with an adapter library called KWQ (pronounced Quack).
Since then, a number of projects have built on the WebCore library, porting it to other platforms like Nokia mobile or the cross-platform GNUstep libraries, or adopting it for use in their own browsers like Omni Group's OmniWeb browser.

While Apple WebCore developers have KDE CVS accounts and full access to the KHTML codebase as well as the KDE bugzilla system, KHTML developers don't have access to the Apple internal source code versioning control system, nor to the Safari bug data base.
Users and non-users of KDE start expressing their expectation of a quick update to KHTML so that Konqueror, the KDE web browser, also passes this test; Slashdot postings suggest that KHTML developers are too lazy and/or too stupid to take Apple's marvellous and easy to-digest-patches and merge them back into KHTML.
He also does not hide the fact that he is pretty pissed off by clueless user comments which give all the credits to Apple but don't acknowledge the KHTML developers' work who mostly work for free in their spare time on KHTML.

Because WebCore and JavaScriptCore are open-source (under the LGPL), anybody with a Mac, OS X 10.2, and the development tools can download them and compile them.
WebCore’s Project Builder file isn’t configured to look for frameworks in your home directory, so if you put JavaScriptCore.framework there, WebCore will fail to build.

Regarding webcore, you seemed to say that webcore was no longer based on KHTML from the KDE project.
What happened recently was that Apple put webcore on a publicly accessible CVS, which makes it easier for KHTML developers to incorporate changes made by Apple back into KHTML.
The grumbles KDE devs were having before was that Apple was submitting huge changes back to the KHTML project in one go that could not be applied cleanly and was difficult to sort through.
