Michigan Protection and Advocacy, which monitors inmates with disabilities, as well as families of two inmates who are upset at programs and safety at the prison, also were prepared to testify but weren't called upon.

To this question, half of the respondents (50 percent) agreed that they were satisfied with the local government and the other half (42 percent) said that they were not satisfied as shown by Fig 14.
Respondents also thought the village and township should promote new residential spaces as more homes generate more tax base and over half the respondents (54.7 percent) suggested more housing developments is needed.

Two agreements were entered into between GEO and the State of Michigan, a 20-year lease (subject to two 5-year extensions) and a 4-year operating agreement (renewed for a second 4-year term in 2003).
In the suit, GEO asserts that the lease, by its express terms, cannot be terminated by the State of Michigan unless the legislative appropriations to the Department of Corrections for such items as rents, contracts, services, supplies and material contain a "specific prohibition" against the use of such appropriated funds for payment of the lease.
The Village and Township claim they will suffer irreparable injury if the lease is wrongfully terminated and are seeking an injunction against the state to continue lease payments until the issues of the lawsuit are finally settled.

House Bill 5800, introduced by Rep. Goeff Hansen, gives a private vendor the latitude to use the Michigan Youth Correctional Facility for any in-state or out-of-state correctional population, such as county inmates, homeland security detainees or out-state inmates.
For example, Maine could contract with the Lake County sheriff or Webber Township to house inmates; GEO could then be contracted to provide services.
