Weezer (The Blue Album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Weezer, commonly referred to as "The Blue Album," is the debut album by the band Weezer, released May 10, 1994.
Weezer is also the name of their 2001 "comeback" album, better known as The Green Album.
This album was also re-released and repackaged in 2004 as a "Deluxe Edition" which included a second disc of B-sides and other rarities that the band had yet to release on an officially released album.

Compare Prices and Read Reviews on Weezer (1994) - Weezer at Epinions.com
Weezer is made up of lead man Rivers Cuomo, drummer Pat Wilson, guitarist Brian Bell (from 1992-1994 it was Jason Cropper, who plays in My Name Is Jonas and worked on earlier demos off the Blue Album), and at the time, bassist Matt Sharp.
The Blue Album is mellow, Pinkerton is dark and emotional, The Green Album is happy, and Maladroit is a mixture of all three with a happy vibe yet rockin' hard at the same time.
Weezer is a rock band which reminds you of classic rock, but has a newer sound and vibe to it.

In 1994 Weezer hit the music scene with their self-titled first album, or as it is more commonly known, The Blue Album.
However over time, the album has become praised as one of the best albums of the 90's while Weezer fans have debated furiously over whether The Blue Album or Pinkerton was the best Weezer album.
Overall the album is a good one with a return to a traditional sound for Weezer for the most part, and once again great lyrics from Rivers Cuomo.

MUSE gives a teaser of new Weezer album - The Daily Free Press - Muse
It’s no secret that Weezer is the most well known of the geek/retro rock bands, and an extended period of time between albums and somewhat cheesier lyrics don’t do much to tarnish their popularity or what they represent.
Whereas the blue album is filled with satirical, self-mocking lines about playing Dungeons & Dragons in garages and listening to Kiss, and dumping girls who lie and wear too much make-up, their new material lacks that unassuming edge.
Weezer released “Hashpipe,” their first new single, on April 15, and while this particular song is not typical Weezer, it does not fall short of what they are obviously quite capable of doing.

EvilSponge: Album: Weezer (green album) by Weezer
The fact of the matter is that the uncanny similarities of Weezer's blue and green albums don't end at packaging.
In fact, the similarities between this album and 1994's blue album are so readily apparent as to beg the question of self-reflexive irony, or at least self-reflexive identification.
Secondly, the green album lacks the subtle flourishes that catch the listener by surprise on the blue album: the melancholy plucked arpeggios that open that album's first track, My Name Is Jonas; the intricate counter melodies of The World Has Turned and Left Me Here; the pre-emo standard bearer Undone -- The Sweater Song.

Weezer: Weezer (Blue Album) [Deluxe Edition] - PopMatters Music Review
Apart from the catchiness of the album, what keeps The Blue Album from the dust-covered used bins of nostalgia hell is that it tightropes the line between irony and sincerity, which makes it both accessible and enduring.
The Blue Album bears the stamp of heavy Pixies fandom, which it mostly uses to its advantage.
The longevity of this album is due to the fact that it's both fun and meaningful, and that it came at a time when most pop music was neither.

Also known as 'The Blue Album', this release is seen as oneof the most important debuts in the college rock/indie scene of America in the early 1990's.
Weezer's follow up album, 'Pinkerton', has grown on me over the years but I don't think they've captured the essence of this debut since.
All I can say is "thank god for weezer!" they show on this deluxe edition of thier 1994 debut album that there are still bands out there that can make classic albums.

Weezer's guitar riffs aren't particularly innovative, though there is certainly some interesting plucking on the album (Check out the intro to Jonas and most of Surf Wax America).

 Splendid: Departments: The Essential Albums
Despite its bareness, it is the album's most textured track: the way his voice cracks; the way we hear his fingers plucking the strings and thumping the wood; the gut-punch of almost-whispered lines like "If I'm a dog then you're a bitch." It is a testament to getting the maximum out of minimalism.
Weezer's second album was a purging, a catharsis wrapped in austere Japanese art.
When it was flung back in his face after the 1996 album's release and disappointing performance, "This is beginning to hurt" may have taken on a new dimension for the complex frontman.

For the more casual listener, the best tracks on the bonus disc are the few acoustic versions of hits from the Blue Album, all of which showcase the songwriting abilities and voice of bandleader Rivers Cuomo.

 Weezer: Make Believe: Pitchfork Review
Weezer have been given a lot of breaks in their second era-- both The Green Album and Maladroit were cut miles of slack despite consisting of little more than slightly above-average power-pop.
Considering Weezer supposedly went through hundreds of songs and several discarded albums to arrive at this final product, the laziness of this songwriting borders on the offensive.
Often, these albums are bombarded with website tomatoes for reasons you can't necessarily hear through speakers: the band changes their sound and image to court a new crossover audience, perhaps, or attempts a mid-career shift into ill-advised territory.

That Weezer’s record company issued a two-disc version of the band’s 1994 debut is testament of the album’s strength and endurance 10 years later.

Weezer took advantage of the new acceptance of loud, distorted guitars, added a pop sheen and goofy, sometimes self-conscious lyrics.

Not that I'm a geek or anything, but this is the ultimate album for a teenager living in the 1990's (even though I myself wasn't a teenager in the 90's, I didn't discover The Blue Album until 2001 when I was 13).

Two pre-production demos of Blue Album songs that didn't make the cut ("Lullaby for Wayne", "I Swear it's True") will please fans; they're gruff, under-rehearsed, and a little too open, but all the more delightful to lo-fi junkies for it.
The main course here is the remastered album (which of course is almost completely impossible to distinguish from the original), but the thin excuse comes in the form of a second disc that packs fourteen B-sides, oddities and remixes.
Certain albums are so satisfying that you need only the thinnest excuse to revisit them, and this mostly brilliant, only-slightly-vapid nugget of guitar pop is one of them.
