		America Hamilton Mattix (Sep 27, 1896-Sep 27, 1982) attended the State Agricultural School in Jonesboro from 1913 to 1914 and received her first teacher’s license for Craighead County on September 18, 1914.
		Later, she also attended the University of California in summer of 1923 and took correspondence courses at the University of Arkansas in 1944 and 1945.
		Mattix spent most of her teaching years (1940s to 1960s) as a substitute teacher at the Valley View School, teaching all eight grades and all subjects.
