Despite advancements of the information age manifested in around-the-clock news delivery options available to ravenous fans of the NFL seeking detailed intelligence of every on and off-field maneuver of favored teams, average fans still rely primarily on the daily newspapers for accurate and insightful sports reporting on hometown teams.
Neck in neck with truthfulness, however, is a mandate that journalists first loyalty must be to citizens, a quality that is exceeding lacking in much of contemporary sports reporting.
Evident to readers is that Whitlock’s long tenure at Kansas City’s major metropolitan newspaper has gained him no relationship with the town’s most influential and accessible major league executive.
