  Berkshire History: Welford Park
Welford Park was originally the site of a monastic grange that was granted to Abingdon Abbey way back in Saxon times.
The house was known as 'Farm Court' and was run on behalf of the monks by a bailiff.
His main residence was at Hamstead Marshall but, after his death in 1560, Welford was used as a Dower House for his wife.

Earlier today a protestor who had been staying at RAF Welford, Berkshire, as part of an anti-militarist camp was arrested under Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
The protestors were camping near RAF Welford, Berkshire in order to watch the base round the clock and take direct action to stop bombs from being taken to Fairford.
RAF Welford is run as a satellite to Fairford by the 424th Air Base Squadron.

He acquired the manor of Hamstead Marshall in Berkshire, for which county he was Lord Lieutenant in 1559, and built there a fine house which was pulled down in 1602.

RAF Welford was transferred after the first Gulf War in 1992 to the 424th Air Base Squadron, RAF Fairford under the 424th Commander as a designated storage site for Fairford's support to bomber aircraft in contingency.

Anti-war activists have, this morning, used their bodies to stop a convoy carrying bombs as it was making its way from the bomb 'depot', RAF Welford in Berkshire, to RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire.
In a protest against the humanitarian cost of war on Iraq, four activists have locked themselves to a car and to each other to prevent the bombs reaching RAF Fairford where it is believed they will be loaded onto United States Air Force B52 bombers destined for Bagdhad.
The second convoy (since this phase of the war against Iraq started) from Welford Munitions Dump to Fairford was halted on the A419 on it’s way to Fairford, yesterday (Mon 25th March) at about 9.50am.
