The purpose of these Rules is to assist in the orderly development of underground water, insure minimum well construction standards, prevent pollution of aquifers, and to obtain accurate records of well drilling operations.
Changes to the Utah well drilling statute (Section 73-3-25 of the Utah Code Annotated) were proposed during the recent 2008 legislative session.
Subsequently, the Well Drilling Rules (R655-4 UAC) must be revised to reflect the changes in the well drilling statute.

  Drilling a Well
It is highly recommended that you use a licensed well driller unless you are capable of constructing your own well in accordance with the state well construction standards.
An adequate well is constructed in a manner that allows the pump inlet to be lowered at least 20 feet into that portion of the aquifer that is saturated at the time the well is drilled.
A licensed well driller is responsible for constructing an adequate well and complying with the well construction standards which includes informing the well owner of drilling requirements, completing the well and installing equipment to control a flowing well, submitting records, and informing the owner of plugging requirements if a well is abandoned.

Well drilling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Well drilling is the process of drilling a hole in the ground for the extraction of a natural resource such as ground water, natural gas, or petroleum.
Drilling for the exploration of the nature of the material underground (for instance in search of metallic ore) is best described as borehole drilling, or 'drilling'.
The earliest water wells were probably shallow pits dug by hand in regions where the water table approached the surface, possibly with masonry walls lining the interior to prevent collapse.

Oil well - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The well is created by drilling a hole 5 to 30 inches (13–76 cm) wide into the earth with an oil rig which rotates a drill bit.
After the hole is drilled, a steel pipe (casing) slightly smaller than the hole is placed the hole, and is secured in the hole with cement.
Drilling fluid (aka "mud") is pumped down the inside of the drill pipe and exits at the drill bit and aids to break up the rock, keeping pressure on top of the bit, as well as clean, cool and lubricate the bit.

HRS Drilling Co., Inc. - D.F. Well Drilling
Your well is cased in steel, grouted and sealed against surface contamination as required by municipal regulations and the porosity of alluvial and rock formations encountered.
This is what enables us to come in, drill the well, test its water flow, match and install the pump and tank, and complete the job to your satisfaction in the least possible time and at rock bottom cost.
D.F. Well Drilling also has considerable experience in providing "monitoring" wells that are used to keep tabs on seepage from land fills or industrial areas and to check on contamination of aquifers or underground water supplies.

PRIVATE WATER SYSTEMS - Well Drilling Methods
Wells drilled by this method may be as deep as 1000 feet and have diameters ranging from 4 to 18 inches.
Rotary drilling combines the use of a rotating bit for forming the borehole and a continuously circulating drilling fluid for removal of the cuttings.
Since the well is not cased until drilling has stoped, abandoning the well does not entail pulling the casing or leaving it behind.

Laser Oil & Gas Well Drilling [Laser Applications Laboratory] - Nuclear Engineering Division (Argonne), Facilities
If drilling with lasers ultimately proves viable, it could be the most radical change in drilling technology in the last century.
The novel drilling system would transfer light energy from lasers on the surface, down a borehole by a fiber optic bundle, to a series of lenses that would direct the laser light to the rock face.
In most wells, thick fluids – called "drilling muds" – are injected into the borehole to wash out rock cuttings and keep water and other fluids from the underground formations from seeping into the well.

 Raab Well Drilling Water Treatments
Occasionally in high mineral areas or in deep wells, dissolved solids can be found in the raw water making the water hard or soft or contain other minerals such as iron, manganese, or sulfur.
Well water should be tested annually for bacterial presence in the water.
A contaminated well can usually be disinfected to remove all bacteria but it is recommended that a water professional check over the system the determine the source of the contamination.

 Well Drilling
A hole of sufficient size must be drilled straight down until water of adequate flow is reached, through earth, semi porous rock layers and solid rock.
To keep the surrounding earth from caving in and to keep sediment or impurities out of the well, it is lined with a leak proof impervious casing sealed into the solid rock.
The well should be located at a higher elevation than any source of possible contamination, convenient to point of use and with pumping equipment accessible for maintenance.
