Urd - Biocrawler   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Urd in OMG is half-goddess, half-demoness; she (unlike her former friend, Mara) chose her good side and thus became a goddess in total.
Urd's angel, World of Elegance, reflects her personal duality, having one white wing and one fl wing (half of her hair is white and half is fl, also).
Urd recharges her energy by drinking a lot of sake and is able to teleport via television screens.

 Well of Urd

Also near the well in a hall are three Norns (or Nornir) that tend the well - Urd, Verdandi, and Skuld, personifications of fate.
They engrave the fate of all humans onto the trunk of the Yggdrasil and attend to the needs of the tree.

The Masks of Odin by E-B Titchenell, ch 8 (Death and Rebirth)
She waters the soul's individual tree of life as well as the cosmic Yggdrasil: the past determines all one's future condition, in death as well as future lives.
All others visit the well of Urd for her selection of the coming lot in life: the most appropriate and useful conditions for the soul's further growth.
It may well be that to one a happy life will bring expanded sympathies and greater awareness, but it is very often suffering which more effectively arouses the knowledge of others' need and the wisdom to supply it aright, mellowing the soul and enabling it to blend with the universal in divine compassion.

Urd is the eldest of the sister goddesses, and was sent to Heaven by her mother Hild when she was at a very young age.
Urd is then assumed to have taken a guardian-type role over her younger sister from then on.
Among Urd's activities, the activities of watching television, sitting alone, and studying are all acts of either reflection of the past or attempting to not think of the past.

Hild - sake, bugs, and angels diner   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Urd most likely suspected being half demon due to the obvious differences in her nature compared to pure goddesses, plus the constant war she feels between the two natures within her.
Well perhaps their creator was basing that on the Jewish and Christian concept of humans being made in the divine image, since all the other sentient beings in the series have at least a few physiological differences from humans be it Troubador's pointy ears or the many differences of Morgan le Fay.
Urd could very well have said what she did to Hild because she doesn't regard Hild as her mother even if she IS her biological mother (much like how she reacted to Celestine when he hinted at about how she should want what he's trying to create because she can never love in the present).

This conclusion is also drawn with due consistency, and Yggdrasil's third root, which in the mythology descended to the well Hvergelmir and to the lower world of the frost-giants, Niflhel, now extends over the whole lower world regarded as being identical with Niflheim and the places of punishment therewith connected.
The goddess of the lower world and particularly its domain of bliss, was in the mythology, the goddess of fate and death, Urd; also called Hel, when named after the country which she ruled.

As a goddess Urd finds the mundane aspects of life on earth boring beyond relief and will seek to entertain herself and save some work by invoking her magic.

Among themselves, the oldest and original Norn was Urd -- other variants of her name include Wurd (Old High German), Wryd (Anglo-Saxon, commonly translated as "Fate"), Weird (English), Urth, Urtha, Urdr, Urda, Ertha -- our word "earth" is derived from her.
Near their cave was the cosmic wellspring of life, destiny, and justice -- Urdarbrunnr, the "Well of Urd." To preserve the life of the World Tree, the Norns annointed it daily with white clay from the spring and gave it pure, shining water from the well.
The gods themselves gathered daily around Urd's sacred Well, for this assembly-place was the gods' court of law where they solved problems and settled legal disputes.

 The Norns
In Germanic mythology, the Norns were a group of supernatural beings who corresponded to the Greek Moirai; they were usually represented as three maidens who spun or wove the fate of men.
Some sources name them Urd, Verdandi, and Skuld, perhaps meaning "past," "present," and "future." They were depicted as living by Yggdrasill, the world tree, under Urd's well and were linked with both good and evil.
It is characteristic for the shifts in the belief in destiny that Urd not only was perceived as a personal entity of destiny, but also as the consequence of destiny, as the dark destiny and its result: death.

The religion was an integral part of the culture, and the beliefs are revealed not only in the mythology, but also in the customs, ethics, and laws, much of which has survived as a cultural ethos.
Today Ásatrú is used to refer to a specific religious community, which shares faith in the deities, as well as taking on the worldview and philosophy of the Old Norse and Germanic people in expressing that faith.
Unlike Christianity, for instance, which begins with a ritual of rebirth that represents a break with the past and washing some of it away, Ásatrú accepts the past and all things that have come before as part of what one is, and will be.
