Wellington - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wellington is often described as New Zealand's cultural centre, boasting a world-class film and theatre industry, Te Papa (the Museum of New Zealand), the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the Royal New Zealand Ballet.
Greater Wellington or the Wellington Region means the entire urban area, plus the rural parts of the cities and the Kapiti Coast, and across the Rimutaka Range to the Wairarapa.
Wellington is the southernmost national capital city in the world, with a latitude about 41°S. It is more densely populated than most other settlements in New Zealand, due to the small amount of building space available between the harbour and the surrounding hills.

Hurricanes rugby coach Graham Mourie refused to discuss his future last night after his side ended the 2002 Super 12 with a disappointing 44-20 loss to the Chiefs in Hamilton.
But last night's match was a special one for the Hurricanes' policy of sticking with players in the franchise area, and the result could now cause a rethink.
The game showed that the Hurricanes' development of players is a couple of years away from being where it has to be, and that Mourie had indeed been justified in sticking very much with a starting line-up through the season's games, though those players became battered and tattered from over-use.

The Wellington Hurricanes, despite having All Black juggernaut Jonah Lomu sent off before halftime and playing at times with 13 men in the second half, gave woeful New South Wales a Super 12 rugby lesson at the Sydney Football Stadium on Saturday night.
Graham Mourie's Hurricanes won 27-20, but it was a massive psychological victory, as they outclassed the inept Waratahs even though playing for much of the second half with two men down.
Wellington looked far more charged up heading into this important clash and their forwards dominated their counterparts with furious cleanouts in rucks and mauls, while strangely their Waratah counterparts preferred not to contest them with numbers.

The Hurricanes had the first opportunity to get on the scoreboard, but half back Isaac Boss chose to take the quick tap and he was made to pay for that hasty decision as the Stormers forced the turnover going the length of the field before receiving a penalty within sight of the posts.
Wellington quickly reeled in that deficit though as they made plenty of ground with their attacking play, finally getting a penalty that gave fly half Jimmy Gopperth the chance to level the scores at 3-3 five minutes later.
Wellington had a great chance to score the first try of the match in the 57th minute when centre Conrad Smith kicked a loose ball ahead only to see his chasers pulled back for being offside.
