		In 1879 the Worthington and Sioux Falls railroad was built west from Sioux Falls to Salem, and a station was established at Hartford on the southwest quarter of section 22.
		The territory comprised the southwest quarter and the south half of the south half of the northwest quarter of section 22 in Hartford township.
		When the township of Hartford was organized he was elected chairman of the town board of supervisors, to which position he was re-elected during the three years succeeding, and again in 1891, having served on the board nine years in all.
