Marquette County and Negaunee Township governments are planning to make the area surrounding the property into a large industrial park.

Michigan is one of eight states not collecting data about the amount of MSW recycled and/or composted annually.
HB 5561 would permit a county to ban solid waste or ash from its disposal areas if it was generated in a county that does not have a recycling rate comparable to its own.
Michigan generates nine million scrap tires annually, which end up in stockpiles across the state that pose such health and safety hazards as breeding disease-carrying mosquitoes and rodents and catching fire from arson, accident, or lightning.

According to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality Interim Response Investigative Action, a portion of the bottomlands filled in with CKD lie on property currently owned by LaFarge Corporation.
The objectives are to investigate the potential effects of the CKD pile on fish and macroinvertebrate communities of Thunder Bay, as well as to evaluate the physical and chemical effects of the CKD material on surrounding surface and ground water.
Michigan DEQ is continuing to investigate the CKD site and adjacent lake area.

 History - Delta County of Michigan
In a cooperative venture among the cities, townships and the County Board, the Delta Solid Waste Management Authority was organized in 1985 to construct and manage a landfill for disposal of Delta County wastes.
The County was one of six communities, statewide, selected as "model" program, a cooperative effort among the municipalities and the recyclable materials as well as a drop-site.
The Delta County Board, in December of 1997, commissioned a bronze sculpture of Delta County to be constructed by T. Vinette and mounted on the south wall of the Courthouse.

He was born in Yates County, N.Y.; at the age of 20 made his way to Michigan; was one of the pioneers of Shiawassee County, and knew by experience the inconveniences and deprivations attending the early settling of this county.
Wright was born in Duplain Township Sept. 25, 1877 to Eugene and Clarissa Brown and was a graduate of Ferris Institute.

Michigan State University presented eight newly built township Web sites on December 15, 2005, as part of their final class presentations for the semester.
Many township officials will be approached in the coming weeks by providers to certify that their community is an “underserved area.” The definition of “underserved” is an area or community where there is no widely available access to affordable broadband service.
Townships may also support new investments in broadband by agreeing to purchase services or to provide access to township-owned towers and structures.

The RAP review represents the professional opinions of Dr. Susan Masten, Associate Professor of Environmental Engineering at Michigan State University and Lisa Szymecko, Technical Outreach Specialist for the TOSC Program.
No engineering controls are documented in the RAP to protect the health and well being of residents that will be living on the site during the later phases of redevelopment of the property.
It should refer to a table of sample results as well as a table that highlights the pertinent physiochemical properties such as the density, solubility, and half-life in soil and in water that allow the authors of the RAP to make this conclusion.

 Saint Joseph County, Indiana History and Genealogy Research Guide and Links
Father Marquette, in 1673, passed up the Illinois and Kankakee Rivers, and across the Portage "to the St. Joseph of the Lakes." This was probably the first discovery of this lovely river by any European, and if tradition is true, he reached the river about 2 miles from where South Bend now stands.
Samuel L. Cottrell was appointed sheriff of the county in 1831 and in 1834.
Taylor was also elected the first clerk and recorder of the county on October 18, 1830, and he continued to hold prominent positions in the business and civil concerns of the county.

 NPL Site Narrative for Mason County Landfill, NPL, Superfund, US EPA
From late 1971 until August 1978, it was operated for the county by Acme Disposal.
While in operation, the landfill received residential, commercial, and industrial refuse, as well as liquid wastes and sludges.
In late 1981 and early 1982, residents filed two suits against the county and Acme.
