New Orleans class starship - Biocrawler
In the Star Trek fictional universe, the New Orleans class is a rarely seen starship class used by Starfleet, the military and exploration arm of the United Federation of Planets.
The design of the New Orleans class mostly follows conventional Federation starship design with a saucershaped primary hull attached to a roughly cylindrical engineering section by a short, thick neck and with two warp engines attached to the dorsal side of the secondary hull by long, backwardangled, upwardcurving pylons.
The most unusual features of ships of this class are the three forwardfacing pods, two mounted on top of the saucer and the other connected to the ventral engineering hull by a short pylon.

The NX-01 is decommissioned that year, but the fate of the other NX class ships is not revealed; in addition, it is not revealed whether the new Warp 7 vessels also carry NX designations (it is possible that the new ships are the oft-mentioned Daedalus class starship, which was in use around that time).

Starships passing through thicker portions of the interstellar medium might suffer ablation as well as being in peril of reaching unnavigably high speeds, overshooting the proper destination and possibly ending in a more serious collision.
Whatever mechanism is used by a starship to jump the light barrier must also be applied to objects and vessels subjected to a hypergate.
The limitations of this technology are not well known but it seems to be applied only aboard starships, coupled to hyperdrive systems and can only retard the flow of time in the region immediately surrounding the vessel.

The starship Sovereign was the pathfinder of its class and testbedfor several new technologies like enhanced deflectors and shields; it was considered a failure when it turned out that theavailiable warp cores at that time were not powerful enough to suit the huge energy needs of the ship's systems.

The Galaxy class starship was originally intended to be a smaller design, but mission creep and specification creep during the design process resulted in the largest starship Starfleet has ever produced.

Akira class starship - Art History Online Reference and Guide
In the Star Trek fictional universe, the Akira class is a group of heavily armed starships used by Starfleet (although this is contested often, as there is no consensus among fans on the ship's true purpose).
Ships of the Akira class are large vessels composed of a circular, saucer-shaped primary hull with a low-slung navigational deflector and two beams rising from the top heading aft; the beams attach to an arch, which supports two warp nacelles at its ends and a weapons pod that fires photon torpedoes at its zenith.
The design of the Akira class superficially resembles a catamaran and the old NX class, particularly from the dorsal profile.
