Wales (Welsh: Cymru; pronounced "Kum-REE", IPA: {{IPA/ˈkəmɹi/}}) is a nation, a country, and one of the four constituent parts of the United Kingdom (along with England, Scotland and Northern Ireland).
The traditional women's Welsh costume, incorporating a tall fl hat, was devised in the nineteenth century by Lady Llanover, herself a prominent patron of the Welsh language and culture.
Wales has been a principality since the 13th century, initially under the Welsh prince Llywelyn the Great, and later under his grandson, Llywelyn the Last, who took the title Prince of Wales around 1258, and was recognised by the English Crown in 1277 by the Treaty of Aberconwy.

The world famous Talyllyn Railway was the first railway in the U.K. to be taken on by enthusiasts as a preservation enterprise after it had closed for business in the nineteen-fifties.

By definition narrow gauge means anything less than the adopted standard gauge of a country.
In the UK, the standard gauge is 4 foot 8 and a half inches, and most narrow gauge (NG) operations in the UK have used a width between rails of two to two and half foot approximately, although there are wider and narrower versions.
Even if you aren't a railway modeller, the real thing is often so compact and different, it gives the appearance of being a model anyway and is popular with people that often have little or no interest in railways generally.

The Brit Valley Railway is a proposed 2 foot narrow-gauge railway, principally steam hauled, between Bridport and West Bay, on the beautiful West Dorset Coast.
Built on a gauge of 2 feet 3 inches, the Talyllyn Railway is one of a number of narrow-gauge lines in north and mid Wales built in the 19th century to carry slate, in the Talyllyn's case from the Bryn Eglwys quarries near Abergynolwyn.
From the original railway companies which were absorbed into or involved with the original railway, to the various organisations with an interest in reviving the WHR, a proliferation of company and society names have come and gone.

While our main line railways have been forced into dull uniformity by the practicalities of being a part of a larger whole, their smaller cousins retain their individuality, and with it their charm, which can be a delight to young and old whether railway minded or casual visitor.
This railway is unique in Britain in that for much of its length it is double track and the narrow gauge locomotives, each a miniature replica of a main line steam engine, flash past each other at speed with their trains.
The narrow gauge has much to offer and it would be a shame to leave an area boasting a narrow gauge railway without paying it a visit.

As the railway now ran through dense woodlands for a number of miles, the result was disastrous, with forest fires becoming almost a daily hazard.
During the mid 1970s the Vale of Rheidol Railway was beginning to suffer problems with its coal-burning fleet similar to those faced by the FR a few years previously.
It was hoped that once trials were completed the loco would enter service during the 1993 season but in the event the experimental stage was not completed by the end of the season and developments to bring the system to a satisfactory level of reliability was still in progress.

Within this theatre of narrow railway plotting, Hugh Beaver Roberts aspired to dominate the scene for over a decade; then Charles Easton Spooner, finding the Festiniog Railway too restrictive for his empirical ambitions, contrived his own ascendency; finally Henry Joseph Jack cunningly manipulated to dictate electrical and transport undertakings in this part of the county.
