Lake Wenatchee State Park is a 489-acre camping park with 12,623 feet of waterfront on glacier-fed Lake Wenatchee and the Wenatchee River.
The park is bisected by the Wenatchee River, creating two distinct areas -- South Park, with areas for camping, swimming and horseback riding; and North Park, in a less developed, forested section, a quarter-mile walk from the lake.

A decision whether to hold a popular Lake Wenatchee sockeye salmon fishery is on hold while Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) biologists monitor the number of fish able to reach the lake.
While this year's run of returning sockeye has been stronger than in recent years in the Columbia River, low water flows in the Wenatchee River system resulting from this year's drought are hampering fish passage at Tumwater Dam west of Leavenworth.
The spawning escapement goal for the Wenatchee River system is 23,000 fish, nearly all of which spawn in the White River.

The pre-season forecast is for 30,400 Wenatchee River origin fish to return to the Columbia River in 2005.

What they didn't realize is that the bulk of the trout season coincided with both the migration of adult steelhead into the system (july-sept), but also that many of the "trout" harvested under the pretense of being hatchery raised cathable sized trout, were acutally wild born steelhead smolt, which were eventually headed to the sea.
The wenatchee was one of few streams in the area to hold a truely large population of healthy wild adult rainbows capable of sizes not considered possible this side of the rockies (25 inch +).
Apparently the Wenatchee fish were very responsive to the dry, and delivered an aspect of the sport rarely found anywhere, especially within a few hours drive of major cities.

Someday this river will be open again, maybe soon and I was thinking what ashame it would be if it got so crowded that it was not worth fishing.
The Wenatchee was closed to all fishing because NOAA told the WDFW that either they close the Wenatchee to prevent the killing of native Upper Columbia River Steelhead because these steelhead were determined by NOAA to be "threatened".
It is a lottery system that could protect a river in need of protection and weather you are rich or poor you can come up with a reasonable amount of money to have a few days on that one river if you are lucky and really want to fish it.
