BIOGRAPHY OF WENDELL R. Wendell Anderson was born in St. Paul on February 1, 1933, and graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1960.
Anderson was elected governor of Minnesota in 1970, focusing his campaign on the need to reduce the burden of high property taxes, and to provide local communities--primarily schools--with major nonproperty revenues from the state.
Anderson was defeated by Independent-Republican Rudy Boschwitz in the 1978 general election.

In 1970, Wendell Anderson ran for governor with Perpich as his running-mate.
They won the election, and Perpich served for six years as Lieutenant Governor before ascending to Governor when Anderson resigned in 1976 to take up a United States Senate seat vacated by Walter Mondale.
Perpich and Anderson had been re-elected as the two executive leaders of Minnesota in 1974, so Perpich served out the remaining two years of the term but failed to win the office in 1978.
