Wendover's population has moved from 2,500 in 1985 (both states) when development slowed on account of the credit crunch, to 5,500 in 1990.
Incorporated as a city (officially West Wendover) in 1991, the little gambling center on the Nevada side is about to expand by 800 acres of residential housing, a large water park and a Factory Outlet mall, and a plan to annex Wendover, Utah, is being debated by voters at press time.
Wendover resembles an old-time mining town in the way it has sprung vigorously to life in the desert wilderness, progressing from next-to-nothing to rambunctious little city in just a few fast years.

  History of Wendover, Utah
When Wendover, Utah was incorporated on 25 October 1950 with 149 qualified electors and a population of more than 400, it was a far cry from the watering stop established by the Western Pacific Railroad in 1907.
Wendover became a city of the third class 25 March 1982 with a population of 1,099.
Wendover City is famous for the nearby Bonneville Salt Flats, the 26,000 acres of salt flats where would land speed records have been made; it is also where the crew of the Enola Gay trained before dropping the atom bomb on Japan in 1945.

Wendover Field was conceived during the late 1930s, and congress appropriated funds in 1940 for the acquisition of land for bombing and gunnery ranges.
Wendover was transferred to the Strategic Air Command (SAC) in March 1947 and used by bombardment groups deploying on maneuvers.
Wendover AAF was declared surplus in 1976 and on 16 June, most of the field, including the water system, was turned over to Wendover, Utah, as a municipal airport.
