Wendy Cope's use of parody in Making Cocoa for Kingsley Amis
Cope is a British poet who became a best-selling poetic parodist in the late eighties —the period from which this article by Jameson dates.
Cope seems to be criticizing courtly-love poetry written from a man's perspective, which she presents as unrealistic.
As Cope has explained in interviews (Dickson 1992: 47), the appositely named Mr Couch is her psychiatrist —a masculine figure with patriarchal connotations, since he plays the symbolic role of father, priest and judge.

The Christmas Life by Wendy Cope - Poetry Archive
Cope's rueful wisdom connects her to the tradition of Betjeman and Larkin, but she brings a fresh female perspective to bear on social and literary foibles.
She has said of her parodies that they were a way "of coming to terms with what was fashionable in poetry" and in their unerring accuracy and mastery of form she showed she could match any of her male contemporaries.
Cope keeps her explanations droll and to the point, wisely allowing the poems their own voice.

River Girl, The - Wendy Cope - Printed Books Shopping at dooyoo.co.uk
Wendy Cope burst onto the poetic scene in the 1980s with Making Cocoa for Kingsley Amis, which although being from Faber and Faber, was a good poetry collection - with wit, humour and style, and not all this pompous verbal diarrhoea they keep flogging to us.
I was introduced to this at uni in a basic get-them-to-actually-look-at-poetry way, having been put off much modern verse beforehand with Eliot and DH Lawrence, like many.
It turns out to have been a handy commission for Cope, as she hardly published anything for many years after Cocoa, and yet to come were the heady days of the later '90s, when she had finally more collections of her own, and a host of editing comic verse...

[minstrels] Waste Land Limericks -- Wendy Cope
Reams of critical analysis are all very well, but sometimes I think the best thing to have come out of "The Waste Land" is Wendy Cope's inspired summary of the poem.
Her stripped down version of Eliot's rather impenetrable masterpiece is (as we've come to expect from Cope) excruciatingly funny, but it's also amazingly faithful to the original - she seems to capture the essence of each (long and complex) section in just a few short lines.
My enjoyment of Cope's limericks was enhanced immeasurably by my reading of these two scholarly articles (and others; John Wain's Waste Land Casebook is a good compendium, if you really want to go into depth).
