WENGEN, Switzerland (Reuters) - Austrian Benjamin Raich, already winner of a super-combined on the same piste on Friday, clocked the fastest time in the first leg of a World Cup Alpine skiing slalom in Wengen on Sunday while Giorgio Rocca and Bode Miller faltered.
Germany's Alois Vogl, winner on the Wengen piste last year, was second fastest, 0.15 seconds off the pace while in-form American Ted Ligety was third a further 0.04 seconds behind.
Rocca, the winner of the first four slaloms of the season, had to be content with fourth after making mistakes on the top part of the course but the Italian was only 0.30 seconds behind Raich, a gap he has easily bridged in previous races.
