Wesel History   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
The royal manor in Wesel, which was built in the same place as the castle of the Dukes of Cleve, which was of a much later date and was destroyed during the last war, is the germ cell of the later Wesel.
Wesel, which played an important part in theological learning during the later Middle Ages, was naturally also involved in the theological disputes during the period of the Reformation.
Wesel was almost completely destroyed (97%.) The large photograph showing the complete destruction of the town is an aerial photograph made by an Allied war correspondent and published in the "New York Times." Smaller photographs show parts of the destroyed town; some other pictures convey an idea of the artist's impression of the destruction.

And it was concerning the celebration of the Lord's Supper that the French congregation at Wesel requested the advice of John Calvin.
