Topic: Weserflug

Weser Flugzeugbau GmbH - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1935, Dr. Adolf Rohrbach became technical director of a new Weserflug factory at Lemwerder, near Bremen, which opened in 1936.
Perhaps foreseeing the end of the war, the management of Weserflug transferred in 1944 from Berlin to Hoykenkamp, 15km west of Bremen.
In 1948 a trustee, Horst Janson, was appointed to collect the assets of Weser AG, to which Weserflug belonged.

Entwicklungsring Nord - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Entwicklungsring Nord (Northern development circle) was a 1961 joint venture of Bremen-based Weserflug and Focke-Wulf with Hamburger Flugzeugbau to develop parts for rockets.
After Weserflug and Focke Wulf formally merged into Vereinigte Flugtechnische Werke (VFW) in 1964, the machine was redesignated VFW-614.
The draft design was amended to a STOL 40-44 passenger jet with overwing engines, for easier operation from unprepared runways.

Weserflug P.1003/1 Luft '46 entry   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
The fuselage was fairly conventional, with a standard tail unit.
A very similar design was later built by the United States as the Boeing V-22 Osprey, and began testing in 1989.
Even today, the tilt-rotor concept is proving troublesome, and the fact that there would have had to be a very complex gearing arrangement for the Weserflug P.1103 (to tilt the wings and keep constant power to the large diameter propellers) would have proven a very difficult design hurdle.

 Something Awful
Design work began on the Weserflug in 1938 and never progressed past the modeling phase, primarily due to the mechanical difficulties inherent in the aircraft's tilt rotor configuration.
During the course of the war the Germans fielded a tiny handful of primitive helicopters, mostly for reconnaissance and courier duties.
History: Many would argue that the Weserflug P. 1003 was so amazing that it is still slaughtering United States Marines to this day in the form of the crash-prone and eerily similar V-22 Osprey.

The History of the Ju 388 at Silver Hill
The Junkers Ju 388 L-1 with the Werknummer (= c/n) 560049, captured by US troops at the end of the war and now part of NASM's Silver Hill collection, has the code "rrx" on the manufacturer's plate.
Accidentally, I came into possession of documents in the NASM archives which prove that the 560 000 series was built by Weserflug in their Liegnitz (Silesia) plant.
Farther down in the same document, there is a table giving an overview of the aircraft evaluated by the EKdo 388 in November 1944.

MBB Liftsystems AG is located in Hoykenkamp/Delmenhorst, 15 km west of Bremen in north Germany.
In the fifties the aero-company "Weserflug" was located there before it changed into Vereinigte Flugtechnische Werke (VFW).
The first hydraulic working platforms were initially produced for use within the VFW group.

Focke Wulf Fw 190 Late Series Variants   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
During the development of this new version, elements of the Fw 190A-4/U8 long range fighter-bomber were used, in which range extension was obtained by use of two dropable underwing fuel tanks of 300 liters capacity each.
These tanks were carried on VTr-Ju87 pylons produced by the Weserflug company, with duralumin profiled fairings.
However, the increase in fuel weight to 880 kg could considerably reduce aircraft performance and extend takeoff length to the point of reducing the operational ability of the plane from smaller airfields.

In 1937 it became obvious, that the existing facilities at Dessau would not be able to fullfill this request, when the Ju88 serial production would start.
Therefore the serial production of the Ju87 was transfered to Weserflug GmbH at Bremen and Lemwerder in December 1937.
Since 1942 the Ju87 production of the Weserflug GmbH was transfered to Berlin-Tempelhof, where the new airport building was used as the production hangar.

Having experienced the benefits of exploiting concentration camp labor, the defendants used such labor at several other Krupp plants, including Geisenheim, Norddeutsche Huette, Deschimag, and Weserflug.
They obtained concentration camp inmates for use even in plants in occupied countries, as at ELMAG in Mulhouse, France.

The two German registered examples were CH-54A prototypes built in the US and shipped to Germany before any orders had been placed by the US Army.
They were operated between 1962 and 1965 by the licencee Weser (Weserflug Flugzeugbau GmbH of Bremen), later VFW (Vereinigte Flugtechnische Werke), for evaluation by the Bundeswehr.
The paint scheme is olive green on top with a red forward section, tail pylon, and lower/underside of the fuselage.

Its main feature was the overwing installationof the engines, to allow easy operation from unprepared runways.
A further merger of Weserflug with Focke-Wulff led to the redesignation of the project as VFW 614 (Vereinigte Flugtechnische Werke).
In mid 1966, the programme clinched support from the German government, thus enabling real development work to start.
