West Berkshire is a local government district in Berkshire, South East England, governed by a unitary authority (West Berkshire Council).
The West Berkshire district borders Hampshire to the south, Wiltshire to the west, Oxfordshire to the north and both the Reading and Wokingham unitary districts to the east.
West Berkshire is also home to the UK Atomic Weapons Establishment, based near Aldermaston to the east of the district and the worldwide headquarters of Vodafone on the outskirts of Newbury.

Berkshire borders the counties of Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Wiltshire, Hampshire and the London region.
In the west of the county and heading upstream, the Thames veers away to the north of the (current) county boundary, leaving the county behind at the Goring Gap.
Berkshire is a ceremonial county and (with different boundaries) a traditional county, and it is unusual in England in that it is the only non-metropolitan county with multiple districts but no county council.

Queensborough, later West Stockbridge, was assembled from part of Indiantown (Stockbridge) and the "Gore", a long border section disputed with the colony of New York.
West Stockbridge developed as the town's commercial center because of the location of a railroad there in 1838, which hauled marble and iron ore. Colonel Elijah Williams began an iron works on a piece of land just west of the Shaker Mill in 1766.
