The project has made it easier for trains using the West London Line to access the West Coast slow lines by diving under the main lines rather than being held by signals waiting for a path to the slow lines.

East Coast Main Line - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The East Coast Main Line (ECML) is a major railway line in the United Kingdom, linking London and Edinburgh on a 396 mile (637 km) route which runs via the East of England, Yorkshire, North East England and the Scottish Borders.
In contrast, the West Coast Main Line has to traverse the Trent Valley and the mountains of Cumbria, which means more curves, and used to mean a lower speed of 110 mph (177 km/h).
The ECML is one of the busiest lines on the rail network and there is currently insufficient capacity on parts of the line to satisfy all the requirements of both passenger and freight operators.
