  Florida East Coast Railway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Florida East Coast Railway ( AAR reporting mark FEC) is a Class II railroad operating in the US state of Florida ; in the past, it has been a Class I railroad.
The Florida Overseas Railroad, also known as the Key West Extension of the Florida East Coast Railway, was heavily damaged and partially destroyed in the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935.
The Florida East Coast Railway was financially unable to rebuild the destroyed sections, so the roadbed and remaining bridges were sold to the State of Florida, who built the Overseas Highway to Key West, using much of the remaining railway infrastructure.

The FEC is renowned as the railroad that built the first railroad bridges to Key West that have since been rebuilt into road bridges for vehicle traffic.

The Vancouver & Lulu Island Railway Company (Vancouver - Steveston via Marpole and Marpole - New Westminister), incorporated 1891 (BC) and acquired 31 August 1901 by the Canadian Pacific Railway Company (steam operation began 30 June 1902), was leased and electrified by the BCE 1905.
The charter of the dormant Vancouver, Fraser Valley and Southern Railway Company (inc. 1906 Dom.) was acquired in 1910 for the purpose of building the BCE 's Fraser valley line.
Included in the purchase was a railway between the dam at Stave Falls and the CPR at Ruskin, on the Fraser River.

The original terminus of the West Highland Railway was at Fort William, reached in 1894, but its promoters rapidly realised that although they had reached the West Coast they were still far from the fishing grounds of the Minch.
The railway took 4 years to build, and was one of the first major constructions in the world to use mass concrete.
People living along the new line were now able to travel to Fort William in less than two hours, at a fraction of the mail coach fare, and crofters could send their animals to market by train instead of driving them long distances on foot.

Its rail components were both narrow gauge and, later, standard gauge railroads, and from its inception in the late eighteenth century, it was an important factor in the growth of California and the West.
The Seattle line, last survivor of the Pacific Coast Co., was finally absorbed into the Great Northern Railway in 1965.

Converted to an SandT mobile cinema and lecture facility and since withdrawal stored for many years at the Carnforth site of the West Coast Railway Company, 9125 was used there by local children for a den and it is fortunate indeed that it did not suffer a worse fate.
These carriages were constructed with a seating capacity of 60 rather than the normal 56, for use primarily on excursion trains.
