The West and East Forks finally combine to form the boundary between three counties as the White River flows another fifty miles to feed the Wabash.
Access to the river for take-out is at Henderson Ford Bridge 4 1/2 miles north of Martinsville and 5 miles south of Waverly on State Road 37, then 0.7 miles west and north on Henderson Ford Road (County Road 390 E).
This float follows the last miles of the West Fork, passes by the confluence with the East Fork and continues to Petersburg on the main stem of the White.

The eastern edge of the Allegheny coal formation crosses the river about six miles west of Elkins, WV, the limit of the field being along the western slope of Laurel Ridge and close to the crest of that range.
The source of Tygart River is in the extreme southern part of Randolph County; from there it flows a little west of north to its junction with the West Fork River about one mile about Fairmont.
The principal tributaries of the Tygart River are Middle Fork River with a drainage area of 152 square miles, Buckhannon River, with 304 square miles, and West Fork River, with 876 square miles; the first two join the river 52 and 48 miles, respectively, from the mount, and the West Fork at the mouth.

This trail is a service road that starts from the Highway 39 West Fork bridge and heads 6.5 miles west to a small campground, gaining 450 feet elevation in the process.
Eight miles to the South of the start of the West Fork trail is the start of the main San Gabriel river trail but bicycling directly there is difficult.

Before the West Fork and East Fork Obey Rivers meet to form the scenic Dale Hollow Lake, the two rivers parallel each other as they head north down off the Cumberland Plateau onto the Highland Rim and then down into the Central Basin.
The West Fork of the Obey River has cut a large river valley about one-half mile wide running north-south into the Cumberland Plateau.
During the summer, the West Fork Obey literally dries up and sinks into the limestone, but during the Spring or immediately after a large rainfall, the river springs into life and becomes a hotspot of activity for area canoeists, rafters, and tubers.
