  Township of West Lincoln
The Heritage Committee is a group of concerned citizens appointed by Township Council under Section 28 of the ONTARIO HERITAGE ACT, R.S.O. 1990, Chapter 0.13, who is working to highlight and to preserve the ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE OF WEST LINCOLN.
Formed in 1987, the West Lincoln Heritage Committee examines structures to determine their heritage value.
It is hoped that through this work, WEST LINCOLN'S HERITAGE can be preserved for the appreciation and enjoyment of generations to come.

The operator of a large Ontario aviary, which supplies birds to pet shops, has pleaded guilty to smuggling thousands of protected birds from Canada into the United States.
West Lincoln, Ontario resident, Johanne Flikkema, 51, faces up to 10 months in a U.S. federal prison under a plea deal approved this week.
Flikkema, her husband and son also face 158 similar charges in Canada, relating to the alleged smuggling of more than 4,400 birds said to be worth approximately $100,000.

Samuel Benfield Steele was born on January 5, 1851, at Purbrook, near Orillia, Upper Canada (later Ontario), the son of Royal Navy Captain Elmes Steele and Anne Macdonald.
Steele was still only 22, and so wiry that he wore a sash under his jacket to add some manly bulk to his appearance, but he already had a solid military record under his belt.
Steele's A Troop, along with B and C troops, was rushed off by steamer from Toronto through the Great Lakes, and then marched 450 miles farther west to Lower Fort Garry (20 miles downriver from Winnipeg), where their personnel were sworn in on November 3, 1873.
