Lincoln is the capital of Nebraska and is the county seat of Lancaster County.
Lincoln started out as the village of Lancaster, which was founded in 1856, and became the county seat of the newly-created Lancaster County in 1859.
Lincoln's nickname is the "Star City" (from the use of a star to mark state capitals on road maps); a logo formerly used by the city's convention and visitors bureau consists of a star comprised of 5 Ls.

Lincoln's election caused Southerns to conclude that the vital interests of the slave states would not be secured by remaining in the Union and under the jurisdiction of the central government at Washington.

To Lincoln the problem was that of determining the expediency of approving statehood, in a sense, that of reconciling national interests with those of West Virginians who, by virtue of his military failures, seemed to represent a balance of power in the nation.

In 1818 Nancy Hanks Lincoln died from milk sickness, a disease obtained from drinking the milk of cows which had grazed on poisonous white snakeroot.
This was Lincoln's declaration of freedom for all slaves in the areas of the Confederacy not under Union control.
Abraham Lincoln is remembered for his vital role as the leader in preserving the Union during the Civil War and beginning the process that led to the end of slavery in the United States.

 Lincoln Highway Association: 2004 Conference
West Virginia was the last state to be crossed by the Lincoln Highway and was the last state to host the annual conference.
West Virginia became the last Lincoln Highway state in 1927, when a new bridge was built from Chester to East Liverpool, Ohio.
This is one of the longest, uninterrupted brick sections of the Lincoln Highway, along with the brick section east of Elkhorn, Nebraska.

The original seat of the bishop was at Sidnacester, now Stow (eleven miles north-west of Lincoln), and for almost two hundred years the episcopal succession was there maintained, till in 870 the Northmen burnt the church of St. Mary at Stow, and for eighty years there was no bishop.
In 1536 the Diocese of Lincoln was the scene of the "Pilgrimage of Grace", an armed protest against the religious changes which was followed by numerous executions.
The line of bishops of Lincoln, which had included two saints, three cardinals, six chancellors (marked below *), was brought to a worthy close by Thomas Watson, who died a prisoner for the Faith at Wisbech Castle on 27 Sept., 1584, being the last survivor on English soil of the ancient Catholic hierarchy.

In case you wondered what a tornado could do, these poles along the northside of the Lincoln Highway, west of Van Wert, were torn about before the storm clipped the west side of Van Wert (I don't know how the poles on the southside of the road were left standing, if so).
I am of the belief that the Lincoln Highway at one time went to the left along where the Electric poles are (you can even see ruts from the vehicles along that path).
This brick LH pillar was a recent addtion to the Lincoln Highway, constructed at the junction of the old Lincoln and Dixie Highways on the east side of Beaverdam by the Ohio Lincoln League in 1999.

The West Side Highway, originally designated NY 9A north of the Holland Tunnel and NY 27A south of the Holland Tunnel, was part of a limited-access, automobile-only system of parkways conceived by New York's master planner, Robert Moses.
The deterioration and obsolescence of the West Side Highway were recognized as early as 1957, when the first of six studies on improving the elevated road was published.
North of West 59th Street, the refurbished elevated structure would have transitioned from the ten-lane, 5-5 alignment of the West Side Highway to the proposed 3-2-3 alignment of the upgraded Henry Hudson Parkway.
