 North London Line - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The western section of the line, the North London Railway, ran from Richmond to Broad Street (near Liverpool Street) via Dalston, and opened in 1869.
Much of this strech of line will be utilised in the extension of the East London Line, with the stations at Haggerston and Dalston Junction rebuilt.
The line is notable for being the only National Rail route shown on the London Underground map.

The East London line closed in March 1995 for the refurbishment of Grade II* listed Thames Tunnel between Wapping and Rotherhithe and the construction of a new station at Canada Water was built to provide interchange with the extended Jubilee Line.

Not to be confused with the Northern Line, which is part of the Underground system, the North London Line is an overground line that runs in a rough semicircle around London north of the Thames.
It is a rather special line, as it links up areas as culturally distinct and diverse as Hampstead and Dalston, Kew and Stratford, that have never had much else in the way of direct public transport connections.

 Union criticizes East London Line 'privatisation'
The transport union RMT has criticised Transport for London (TfL) for the decision to apparently privatise the East London Line, which is undergoing a major upgrade and extension programme over the coming years.
Responsibility for the East London Line was officially transferred from the Strategic Rail Authority to Transport for London in November 2004, and London Mayor Ken Livingstone has pledged to deliver the £900m extension by the end of the decade.
It is planned that eventually the line will join up with the East London Line, the West London Line and the South London Line to form a circular 'Orbirail' service.

They were given the news a week before public consultation on the east-west London line is due to end.
Crossrail is proposing a route across London from Ebbsfleet and Shenfield in the east to Heathrow and Kingston in the west, which will pass through Richmond.
There is also a proposal for a Crossrail line 2, which would create a network of services linking Clapham Junction in south-west London to Dalston in the north-east of the city.

The Group is also seeking an early start on both the new stations proposed on the line at Shepherd’s Bush and Imperial Wharf and agreement on the service pattern and station facilities at each.

She lived in Gauden Road Clapham SW4, which was bombed in one of the the first V1 missile attacks on 26th June 1944, during the war.
