The West Midlands is a geographical term describing the western half of central England, known as The Midlands.
There is some confusion in the use of the term "West Midlands", as the name is also used for the much smaller West Midlands county, and is still used by various organisations within that area such as West Midlands Police and West Midlands Fire Service.
The West Midlands Region is sometimes considered to spread as far as Cheshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire, but these are not part of the official region.

Worcester was the site of the Battle of Worcester (September 3, 1651), in which Charles II's attempt to retake the country from Cromwell and the Parliamentarians was decisively defeated, in the fields a little to the west and south of the city, near the village of Powick.
After being defeated, Charles returned to his headquarters in what is now known as King Charles house in the Cornmarket, before fleeing in disguise to Boscobel House in Shropshire and his eventual escape to France.
During the 18th century Worcester's trade languished compared to more modern towns of the West Midlands.

It seems to me that tolerance in the West is a recent development, coming from the Enlightenment in the 18th century, and was resisted by the religious authorities at the time.
If the West is tolerant, it's as much so in spite of religion than because of it.
And if the USA wanted to continue to guarantee Israel’s military dominance in the region, they could either give them the F-22, or subsidise Eurofighter on Israel’s behalf (more F-15, F-16 or F/A-18 aircraft probably wouldn’t cut it, because Eurofighter is a generation more advanced).
