	Pennines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The Pennines constitute the main watershed in northern England, dividing the eastern and western parts of the country.
		The geology of the Pennines is dominated by extensive deposits of gritstone and limestone, which in the North Pennines has led to the formation of large underground cave systems and watercourses — known as "gills" and "pots" in the Yorkshire dialect — which are prevalent on the eastern side.
		The landscape of the Pennines is in general constituted by upland areas of high moors indented by the more fertile valleys of the region's various rivers.

	Haslingden Grane - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Haslingden Grane is a glaciated valley lying to the west of Haslingden and in the north east of the West Pennine Moors.
		Prior to the construction of these reservoirs in the 19th century the settlement of Haslingden Grane had a population of 1,300 and was the centre of an illegal whisky distilling industry.
		The valley is overlooked to the north by Oswaldtwistle Moor and to the south by Musbury Heights.

	North East Lancashire 20s-30s - Long Distance Paths
		With the exception of the Hyndburn Clog and the newly-created Pennine Bridleway they can be seen on OS Explorer maps 287 (West Pennine Moors), 21 (South Pennines) and 41 (Forest of Bowland and Ribblesdale).
		A new multi-user route for walkers, cyclists and horse-riders connecting the green fields of Derbyshire through gritstone moors to the remote hills of Cumbria, roughly parallel to the Pennine Way but generally along lower-lying paths to the west of the hilltops.
		The first section to open, in May 2002, was the Mary Towneley Loop, a 47 mile shorter circuit through the South Pennines on the borders of Lancashire and Yorkshire, around Todmorden and Bacup.

		Is this a north eastern influence?) A bracing tramp across the moors was also enjoyed especially when the mist cleared just long enough for us to glimpse views of Winter Hill and later Holcombe Tower, bringing back memories of previous trips to the West Pennine Moors.
		We then headed across the moor to descend to Tockholes Plantation where we had been told we might spot some deer (not to be!), continuing along the waterside path which, very pleasantly took us around Roddlesworth Reservoir and along the side of the river, which has a very interesting river bed.
		Views from the moors were splendid and far-reaching and it was with reluctance that we left the high ground and came down to join the river and the reservoir side.

	Walks in North West England
		On the eastern edge of Lancashire are the South Pennine Hills which are slightly higher at around 520 metres.
		The moors are cut by valleys which afford pleasant walking.
		North West Water has a large interest in the area and there are many reservoirs which blend into the landscape extremely well and provide lovely features to walk around.

		Much of the moors are subject to access land arrangements, by which members of the public are permitted to walk across the moors, not following any specific paths.
		If care is taken, the West Pennine Moors can provide a rich range of terrain and views, but as with walks in any upland area - be prepared.

	Ainsworth, Lancashire: Then and Now

		About Us Bowland Pennine MRT provides 365-day Mountain Search and Rescue service in both the rural and urban districts of Lancashire, and beyond when assisting other teams.

		If you are into down hill then you are not in luck this place has 1 "hard" down hill known as rocky path as see in a pprevious link but some local kids who build trails here get them trashed by northwest water because the land is owned by them
		darwin tower is cool as are the moors around it although we have a high rambler count with some miserable sods there we have the trails around here it gets a 5 star because I'm getting my new bike soon and I am planing a serious all day hack.

	Cronkshaw Fold Farm - A description
		We are a traditional West Pennine farm with 44 acres (16.7 Ha) of inbye land and moor rights for grazing 250 sheep and 50 cows.
		The year we rebuilt the moor boundary wall was a set back as all the sheep on the moor seemed to come to graze.
		In 1998 we grazed our few barren ewes on the heather regeneration area, for June and some of July, about five weeks in all.
