The Brownsville Herald » Mexican feds say West Rail plan should be priority   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-07-20)
June 23, 2003 — A Mexican federal agency reaffirmed this month that supporting a rail bridge to the west of Matamoros and Brownsville is its best option.
The agency, Mexico’s federal subsecretariat of urban development, conducted a new analysis on an east versus west location and found its May 1988 findings to remain unchanged — a rail bridge to the east is feasible from a financial, environmental and planning point of view.
Tamayo said a west site is feasible because the cost of developing a rail-only bridge is less, Matamoros’ urban development would not be affected, the east side is flood prone, and there is need to protect wetlands to the east of the city.
