 | | The program for Western Addition A-2 Redevelopment Project Area, ("A-2 Area") adopted in May, 1966, provides for the development of 5,486 new housing units, the rehabilitation and retention of over 3,965 housing units, the revitalization of the Nihonmachi (Japantown) and Fillmore commercial districts and provision of new community recreational and cultural facilities. |
 | | An additional 568 units of housing are provided under Owner Participation Agreements with private property owners within the Project Area. |
 | | Many housing developments were subsidized under the various federal mortgage assistance programs available at the time and augmented with additional federal rent supplements provided to at least one-third of the units for the direct benefit of low-income households. |
