Because I-95 north of here, the Somerset Freeway, was not built between here and the Middlesex Freeway, I-287, in Piscataway, this was expanded to 6 lanes from the original 4 in the early 1990's, and the official I-95 designation was extended 4 miles east along I-295, the Camden Freeway.
This is the Camden Freeway, I-95 (Western Route) north, at exit 8(East CR 546, CR 583, Princeton Pike) in Lawrence Township.
This was originally meant to be a high-speed, high-capacity ramp from I-295 north, the Camden Freeway, to I-95 south, the Scudders Falls Expressway.
