Western Hemisphere - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Western Hemisphere (capitalised), or Western hemisphere, is a geopolitical term for the Americas and associated islands and waters (or the New World).
It is derived from the geographical term of western hemisphere, which is the half of the Earth that lies west of the Prime Meridian.
In this context, the western hemisphere includes the western portions of Europe and Africa, easternmost tip of Russia, numerous territories in Oceania, and a portion of Antarctica while excluding some of the Aleutian Islands to the southwest of the Alaskan mainland.

Western Hemisphere Warm Pool - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Western Hemisphere Warm Pool (WHWP) is a region of sea surface temperatures (SST) warmer than 28.5°C that develops west of Central America in the spring, then expands to the tropical waters to the east.
During normal Northern Hemisphere winter, warmth over the Amazon drives a Hadley cell with associated descending air driving a strong anticyclone north of 20°N in the subtropical North Atlantic and northeast trade winds.

The dialogue was designed to provide a forum for governments of the hemisphere to discuss with the private sector, proposed or pending changes in energy policies, laws and regulations pertaining to the development, transportation and end-use of energy.
The theme of the Sixth Western Hemisphere Energy Ministers Meeting was enhancing Western Hemisphere energy security and cooperation through agreement on actions to increase oil and gas development and trade.
A hemispheric energy portfolio, if adequately structured to improve regional energy security by reflecting greater understanding of regional energy needs, issues, and trends, can maximize cost-effective and environmentally sensitive development and trade in key energy resources to more of the hemisphere than if the hemisphere follows isolated and individual efforts.

Migratory Birds and Spread of West Nile Virus in the Western Hemisphere
As was the case for humans, the first birds documented as infected with West Nile virus in the Western Hemisphere were identified in August 1999 (6).
Furthermore, although the virus may remain enzootic for years awaiting environmental conditions that favor an epidemic (36), the usual pattern in southern Eurasia is one of isolated outbreaks, apparently resulting from importation of active virus by migratory birds into an area with appropriate climatic, vector, and amplifying host conditions (7).
This pattern suggests that future movements of the virus in the Western Hemisphere may depend on its persistent amplification in wintering avian populations in New World tropical, subtropical, and southern temperate regions, and subsequent importation into major avian concentration areas in the temperate region.

The goal of U.S. foreign policy in Chile is to pursue expanded economic relations and to cooperate on a range of bilateral and multilateral issues of interest.
This is due in large part because the United States is the country's most important single trading partner and source of foreign investment; both countries also recognize that the example it would set for broader hemispheric trade integration would be in each other's interest.
Chile's association with the MERCOSUR countries in 1996 and its continuing interest in hemispheric free trade, as well as its membership in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) grouping auger well for even closer international economic ties in the future.
