Westinghouse Electric Company - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Westinghouse Electric Company is a nuclear reactor technology company.
Previously, it was a subsidiary of BNFL plc and, prior to that, the CBS group.
The sale has suprised many industry experts who question the wisdom of selling one of the world's largest producers of nuclear reactors shortly before the market for nuclear power is expected to grow substantially; China, the United States and the United Kingdom are all expected to invest heavily in nuclear power.

His firm faith in the alternating-current system led to the founding of the Westinghouse Electric Company in 1886, in bold opposition to the well-entrenched backers of the direct-current system, led by Thomas Edison.
Perhaps the finest tribute of all came from inventor Nikola Tesla, whose patents for the polyphase system of alternating current and the induction motor were acquired by Westinghouse and gave the company its early leadership in electric power developments.
This system was also a factor in winning the Westinghouse Electric Company the contract to install the first power machinery at Niagara Falls, which bore Tesla's name and patent numbers.
