Westwood Studios was a computer and video games developer, founded in 1985 as Westwood Associates by Brett Sperry and Louis Castle and based in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Along with Westwood, EA had also acquired a development studio in Irvine, California.
It was managed by Westwood and became known as Westwood Pacific (later EA Pacific).

The creatures, unlike what Westwood says, don't look like they have 20,000 polygons - they actually look quite pixelated, though, I must say, they do move quite smoothly, and when they gesticulate, the action is perfectly synched to the dialogue.
It's also interesting how Westwood 'livened' up the city - there's different sorts of people all around the place, such as guards, maids, vendors of all kinds, and normal townfolk, to most of whom you can talk.
But one grudge that I have is that forests, caves and anything else not situated in a city always have a sort of a corridor through which you can walk, and a wall surrounding it.

Give Westwood their due for setting up a website for people to come together online for the game but the net, as always, canes you for your choice of ISP so if you dont have a good bandwidth ISP, dont worry about it.
There IS an out provided by a nice Westwood programmer though - and that is to edit the game to take out all incidences of "PLAY AVI" and replace with "PLAYAV_" which works - except for the CONTROLS menu again - and even allows Voodoo2 mode to run properly.

Command & Conquer was the game that put Westwood Studios on the map as one of the great development studios of the world.
So isn't it ironic then that EA Games; their publisher; has decided to shut down Westwood Studios and merge it with a few other less talented design studios in their stable, like EALA.
Over the years, Westwood has become famous for their adaptation of Frank Herbert's "Dune," and they've been known for their ability to incorporate a great storyline into an RTS, but I guess there wasn't enough time or money to do this for Generals.
