Weyburn was founded in the late 1800's on the shores of the Souris river by railroad workers.
Weyburn was officially incorporated as a village in 1902, a town in 1903, and a city in 1913.
Weyburn is the largest inland grain gathering point in all of Canada.

Weyburn’s electric utility came into being in 1905 when Weyburn Electric Light and Machine Company was formed by a group of C.P.R. Employees.
Bill was born in Weyburn in March of 1914, second eldest son of O.S. Mitchell, druggist, who arrived in Weyburn in 1903.
Formerly the Calvary Baptist Church constructed in 1906, was moved to its present location from downtown Weyburn and transformed to a centre for perform-ing arts in memory of a former minister, Saskatchewan Pre-mier and head of the Federal NDP Party, Honourable T.C. Douglas.

The funeral service for the late Gilmour Andrew (Gil) Penny of Abernethy, Saskatchewan who passed away, with his family at his bedside, at Weyburn, Saskatchewan on January 13, 2003 at the age of 82 was held in Knox United Church, Abernethy on January 18, 2003 with Rev. Brian R. Mee officiating.
Gil was born at Abernethy, Saskatchewan on September 17, 1920, the second of three sons born to Richard and Marion (Morrison) Penny.
Going "south" to Weyburn for the past four winters enabled him to be more involved in his grandchildren's lives and they all have many precious memories of times spent with their grandpa.

 SSR - History of the South Sask. Regiment by Lieut. R.J. Wilkinson
Following the Great War it was decided to increase considerably the proportion of Militia Infantry alloted to Saskatchewan, and a unit known as the South Saskatchewan Regiment, was organized in 1920 with 5 active battalions, of which the 3rd had headquarters at Weyburn, and the 5th at Estevan.
Upon the re-organization in 1924 the 3rd Battalion of the South Saskatchewan Regiment took the name of The Weyburn Regiment, and the command was assumed by Lt.-Col. J.E. McGillivray M.M. In 1929 the Regiment was again re-organized, and a re-allocation of company areas was made.
The badge of the Weyburn Regiment had been an adaption of the Royal Warwickshire badge, and was officially described as: An antelope standing on an heraldic wreath; below a scroll inscribed "The Weyburn Regiment." The antelope was in white metal, and the remainder of the badge was in bronze.
