Weyoun - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Weyoun is a notable character in Star Trek history in that he is one of the few regular villains portrayed in a sympathetic light.
Weyoun's villainy is, in the majority of his incarnations, almost always the result of otherwise admirable qualities such as his undying devotion and loyalty to the Founders.
Weyoun 5 first appears in an attempt to convince a Cardassian defector to return home and face trial (DS9: "Ties of Blood and Water"), and is the first to serve as commander of Dominion forces in the Alpha Quadrant.

 STARTREK.COM : Biography
Weyoun 4 was the Vorta field supervisor in 2372 during a joint Federation/Dominion mission in the Gamma Quadrant to destroy a powerful Iconian "gateway" in the possession of renegade Jem'Hadar soldiers.
Weyoun 5 rose to a more significant position in the Dominion, that of chief liaison to the Cardassian government and field supervisor for all Alpha Quadrant operations.
Weyoun 8 served the Female Shapeshifter faithfully — even fulfilling the uncomfortable command to order the extinction of the Cardassian race — until he died at the hands of a Cardassian, Garak, when resistance forces infiltrated Dominion headquarters.

His successor, the fifth Weyoun, became the chief Dominion liaison to the Cardassian government led by Gul Dukat in 2373.
The sixth Weyoun, possibly a defective clone, felt that the Dominion war was wrong, and he attempted to defect to Odo.

The 8th Weyoun was the last Weyoun after the cloning facilities were destroyed.
As one of the Dominion's Vorta, Weyoun was the very essence of his cloned species, the trusted administrators bred by the Founders to handle day-to-day affairs and oversee the Jem'Hadar military.
Weyoun 8 was quickly put into service with hardly any interruption of routine.

 The Strings Of The Puppet
Weyoun nearly sees the loss of the Eleventh Order as a kind of victory and he implies that by making the Klingons waste valuable troops and resources in slaughtering those men, the Klingons' troops and resources are actually more valuable than the five hundred thousand Cardassian troops whose deaths are ultimately in vain.
Weyoun reveals his true nature as the Dominion's apostle, preaching the gospel as he knows it and wanting Damar to be a happy follower.
Weyoun assumes that Damar is passive, that he's satisfied being part of the Dominion, that he's a follower incapable of independent action, that Damar is motivated out of the hope of future peace and prosperity, that Damar believes that the Dominion has Cardassia's best interests at heart.

 My Two Cents Review
After watching Weyoun 6 rather ludicrously spear a piece of pepperoni with a chopstick, we are barely finished chuckling when we are granted another insight into the Vorta.
Weyoun's nightmare and his subsequent question ("Silly, isn't it?") evoked this poignant observation from Odo, "Not at all, it isn't easy to turn your back on your own people.
Weyoun 6's answer had an odd kind of logic which showed that the Vorta have more insight into their situation than we might have thought.

The chemistry between Weyoun and Damar was really working, and I wish we'd seen more of this.
A wonderful example is the scene between Weyoun and Sisko when they both assure the other one with a smile that they are both sensible men and wouldn't start a war for all the tea in China, both knowing the war will start any minute.

Weyoun had been furious about that memorandum not so much for the treachery of the plan but because Damar's and the Jem'Hadar's natural aggression had led to a confrontation and a public brawl over it.

I loved that episode and the relationship between Odo and the runaway Weyoun still stands out for me. But in all fairness, Jeffrey Combs has never put a bad performance into Trek.
