The old parish of Wheathampstead, now divided into the separate parishes of Wheathampstead and Harpenden, is situated at the north-west of the county on the Bedfordshire border.
The village of Wheathampstead lies on both sides of the road leading from St. Albans to Hitchin, principally in the valley of the Lea, and on the steep hill which descends to the river on the south side.
Wheathampstead Place, or Place farm, as it is now called, is a red brick house of two stories, with gables, and a tiled roof with some fine Tudor chimney-stacks.

A display in the St. Albans Roman museum states, "For at least 100 years before the Roman Conquest in AD 43 this part of Hertfordshire was the heartland of a powerful and aggressive tribe known as Catuvellauni, Celtic for 'expert warrior'.....
Four coins in the late fourth century were found in a gravel pit south of the Wheathampstead- Codicote road very near Roman road 221.
The first continuous settlement in the area was around St. Helen's church and the ford by the Bull Hotel and the mill.

Wheathampstead Parish Council wanted to secure their fields for future recreational use and approached the NPFA to seek advice.
The Wheathampstead field is the first in the country to benefit from a partnership under which Plastics Europe and the British Plastics Federation will work with the NPFA to encourage the preservation of open fields for leisure all over the country, in an effort to help address issues such as youth crime and obesity.
The newly-protected field at Wheathampstead will be officially dedicated to generations of children in the village at a special ceremony on Tuesday July 18 2006.

In 1866 he was able to rent the Mill at Wheathampstead (which incidentally is mentioned in the Doomsday Book).
When the first Wheathampstead Parish Council was elected in 1895 George was a member, still serving in 1904 and probably even later.
Although Bridge Mills in Wheathampstead has ceased to function as such, George’s grandson, great grandsons and great great grandson continue the name and business at the New Mill in Lamer Lane, making five generations.

Actually the answer was there all the time, in fact the source is the same that caused us to point to Wheathampstead in the first place, the Cambridge University Record say he was 21 in 1634, son of John Brocket of Wheathampstead.
In the Wheathampstead church there is "on the east wall, an incised white marble tablet in memory of John Heyworth, his wife Joan, and their three children all of whom died in their infancy.

Walked from Wheathampstead to the North towards Gustard Wood taking the footpath off to the left of Lamer Lane.
Walked through the golf course and along public footpaths around the farm fields to the north-west of Wheathampstead.
One particular field seemed to be a nesting area for a large group of Skylark - we saw at least 7 shooting up in their song flight and then diving back down into the low-lying crop.

Public viewing of the river can only be gained from a limited number of vantage points and there are no riverside paths in the centre of the village.

There were great comments from the referee, the Wheathampstead Manager and some of their parents that were very encouraging for the boys and the Managers.
There were only minutes to go and in the dieing seconds Wheathampstead got another consolation goal 2:3.
