In the aftermath of recent flooding, Wheeling Jesuit University, the Robert C. Byrd National Technology Transfer Center and the Center for Educational Technologies are leading an early effort to develop a Web site that would provide citizens access to local emergency plans and related information.
As part of a pilot project, officials with the University are collaborating with Ohio County Schools personnel and the Wheeling-Ohio County Emergency Management Agency to understand the needs of the parents and teachers in the district and to collect emergency plans and maps for posting on a Web site.
The site would be modeled after the Coal Impoundment Project (coalimpoundment.org), an effort led by NTTC, CET and Wheeling Jesuit that provides access to evacuation plans in the event of a failure at a West Virginia coal impoundment.
