He was graduated from Yale College in 1733, was licensed to preach in 1734, and in 1735 was ordained minister in Lebanon Crank.

Lucy Wheelock, educator, and founder of Wheelock College, was born 1 Feb 1857, in Cambridge, VT, the daughter of Edwin Wheelock and Laura Pierce.
Strong religious influence and upbringing characterized Lucy's early years in Cambridge, VT. It was through her mother's Bible readings and catechisms that she learned to read; and her fathers faith and religious influence affected her deeply, remaining with her as a positive force for the rest of her life.
Her ambitions were to attend Wellesley College, which was set to open in 1875 as a model educational institution for women.

 Eleazar Wheelock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rev. Eleazar Wheelock (April 22, 1711 – April 24, 1779) was an American Congregational minister, orator, educator, and founder of Dartmouth College.
Wheelock's success in preparing Occom for the ministry encouraged him to found a school in Lebanon for Native American Indians, with the purpose of instilling, in the boys, elements of secular and religious education, so that they could return to their native culture as missionaries.
Wheelock obtained a charter from King George III on December 13, 1769, over the objections of Samson Occom and the British Board of Trustees headed by Lord Dartmouth who opposed the addition of the college.

In seeking to expand his school into a college, Wheelock relocated his educational enterprise to Hanover, in the Royal Province of New Hampshire.
Samson Occom, a Mohegan Indian and one of Wheelock's first students, was instrumental in raising substantial funds for the College.
The existing Trustees, under the leadership of President Francis Brown, challenged the action and insisted on the validity of the charter and Dartmouth's continuance as a private institution free of interference from the state.

For a good eighty to ninety percent, the Wheelock explanations were sufficient, but for those who need a mastery of the language, eighty to ninety percent is not enough.
If using Wheelock as a self-study, I particularly recommend Grote for assistance when Wheelock is talking about the various voices and verb conjugation issues, and the spelling/vowel changes that occur in conjugation or declension, Grote's notes are very valuable.
Wheelock is one of the better books available as a base text for the learning of Latin, in any edition.
