Topic: All Else Failed

Thorp Records :: Bands :: All Else Failed
ALL ELSE FAILED is a five piece hailing from Philadelphia, PA. For the last 11 years, they have established a loyal following by continuing to push the envelope of underground heavy music.
All Else Failed was formed in the summer of 1995 by Patrick Shannon, Luke Muir and Steve Wiegand.
All Else Failed quickly became a household name, as the live shows remained insane, but also started to feature decent songs.

All Else Failed (re-release) // Albums and Reviews // Lambgoat
Following their 2002 release, “Parade of Chaos,” the ever-changing Zao leaves us (at least we think…) with “All Else Failed,” a re-recording/cover of the unit’s seminal debut LP that put the spirit-filled metalcore band on the hardcore/metalcore map.
“All Else Failed” falls short of any innovation, as the drum work is simplified and straightforward, mirroring that of “Parade of Chaos.” Elsewhere, minor adjustments in some of the guitar riffs seem questionable at times.
Nevertheless, “All Else Failed” still stands up well versus its contemporaries because of its musical content rather than execution, and just proves once again that solid songwriting stands the test of time.

 Abacus Recordings: All Else Failed
From their maniacal live shows to their thought provoking and genre bending albums, All Else Failed refuses to be predictable and demands to be heard.
Originally inspired by the groundswell of independent heavy music of the early to mid 90’s, All Else Failed first landed on the scene in mid 1995 with one singular objective: to tear apart every venue they set their foot in.
Luke, Pat and Steve knew that All Else Failed had more gas in the tank, however, and decided that it may be best to lay low until they could assemble the right lineup of like minded, dedicated musicians.

PunkROCKS.net CD Review - All Else Failed - Archetype
After reading the All Else Failed interview by Ryan Hex (he of the fabulous Hanging Like A Hex zine and Hex label), about the bands storied past and uncompromising performance at last years 2000 Hellfest, I was stoked beyond belief to receive this Now Or Never offering.
By delving deep into the lyrical psyche with tails of despair and suicidal notions, All Else Failed is a band that’s brutal lyricism is matched only by their remarkable sense of composition.
All Else Failed may be the one of the most dark and lyrically embattled bands around (their tales of suicidal escape and personal anguish are nothing short of haunting), but it is how they channel their anger that sets them apart from their peers.

Of all the idioms falling under the heavy music milieu these days, metalcore — or, more specifically, the ambivalently defined "noisecore" strain of it — seems to be going the strongest, both in terms of creative vitality and the sheer number of bands plying this jackhammer trade.
With the latter qualifier, there comes an oversaturation point, and noisecore is quickly eclipsing it, where everybody is ripping off everybody else.
All Else Failed are not one of those bands.

All Else Failed is chunky, heavy, and pummeling and derivative of the metalcore style initiated by Earth Crisis and maintained at the time of this album's release by Strife and other hardcore groups.
Far less innovative then the albums Zao would become known for, the original version of All Else Failed is for completists only.
All else failed was better the first time for sure, but this was a fairly good album.

 My Ghetto: This never happened.
All Else Failed have been around for quite a while--I first heard about them over 6 years ago, when a friend of mine came back from a show he'd been to in the Delaware area, bearing a CD and some tales of wild onstage behavior.
What you get from All Else Failed now is the same thing they provided before, only with the sort of marked improvement that comes when a band spends several years woodshedding, honing their craft instead of trying for fame.
All Else Failed have survived a lot longer than the average hardcore band, and that's especially true when you consider their relative obscurity and lack of success throughout their career.

Zao - 'All Else Failed 2003' review @ into-obscurity.com[enter the underground]
At first, I thought this was your typical reissue of an old classic from another band that has recently broken up and wanted to make their old, hard to find material avaiable again.
If you've been searching and unable to find Zao's "All Else Failed" disc, this re-release is for you, or if you're just a long-time Zao fan that wants to own everything the band puts out.
I think it was a great idea to actually re-record the songs instead of just remastering them and putting out the same CD that came out years ago with different artwork and trying to make one last spurt of income before your band falls into oblivion.

Now, DEP certainly introduced the same sort of mix with Miss Machine, and All Else Failed are just as capable as their peers, but there’s just that “something” missing that keep it from being elevated into the great category.
Still, when focusing on the purely angry, grating side of their musical personality there’s no doubt All Else Failed is a legitimately impressive act, however, when the album ends with the virtually vomit inducing “After All”, I question the overall product.
Still for fans not quite ready to fully absorb Burnt By the Sun and Co, All Else Failed does offer some respite for the curious listener looking for a gateway band, which is a shame as they could be much more.

Philadelphia metalcore act All Else Failed have added guitarist Colin Comstock to line-up for their tour with New Jersey post-hardcore luminaries The Dillinger Escape Plan and Virginians Darkest Hour.
It appears guitarist Bob Wiegand is no longer with All Else Failed as it's hoped that Comstock will in return become the band's fulltime axeman for touring and album duties.
Although All Else Failed's second full-length album is now delayed due to their inclusion in the Dillinger Escape Plan tour, five songs are penned for the full-length which they expect to record in spring 2002.

Zao’s re-release of All Else Failed surely did not follow the path of “all else.” The vocals aren’t as rich as they could be, but that’s part of the punk-inspired hardcore tradition.
Seeing as only Jesse Smith, the drummer, was involved with the original making of this album, the other members of Zao make the re-release sound natural.
The emotion is there; one wouldn’t even know the songs were originally someone else’s.

Keeping in the tradition of other Philly staples like hardcore wrestling and an East Coast aggressive attitude, this outfit combines the might of metal with the disjointedness of noisecore to create a lethal concoction suitable for any type of beatdown.
