	When the Tigers Broke Free - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		"When the Tigers Broke Free" is a Pink Floyd song by Roger Waters, describing the death of his father Eric Fletcher Waters, during World War II at Anzio.
		The song was written at the same time as The Wall, hence its copyright date of 1979, but not released until the movie version of Pink Floyd's album The Wall and first released as a separate track on a 7" single on July 26, 1982, before appearing in The Wall film.

		"When the Tigers Broke Free" is perhaps one of my favorite songs from "the Wall" movie simply for its astounding emotional depth.
		Therefore it is fitting that Waters uses "Tigers" during Pink's symbolically pre-birth state (with his birth taking place during "In the Flesh?"), a time when there are no bricks and therefore no wall; a quiescent time when emotion is just that, raw and unfiltered.

		In 2004, the album was remastered again (with a much cleaner sound than it had before), and after all this time, the song "When the Tigers Broke Free" was finally added back into the album.
		I'd been listening to it for 20 years, so having Tigers in there really jarred me in terms of what I new was coming next.
		So much so that I probably can say the song "When the Tigers Broke Free" is the one Floyd song that envokes the most emotion for me out of any Pink Floyd song - and there's a lot of them.

		On the DVD commentary, Waters purports that "in some generation you break the cycle for some people." Waters' comments are a perfect foundation for the second part of "When the Tigers Broke Free," a song that serves as both Waters' and Pink's most emotional lament for the loss of a father.
		Whereas other songs mix true events with fiction or combine the lives of a few people into one story, "When the Tigers Broke Free" is an unadultered account of Water's childhood and his father's death, making it, at least for me, the most haunting song on the record…even if it wasn't on the original album!
		As with the first "Tigers," there is little need for a symbolic discussion of the song's lyrics being that they are fairly straightforward.
