	When the Pawn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		When the Pawn is the second album by American singer-songwriter Fiona Apple, released by Epic Records in the United States on November 9, 1999 (see 1999 in music).
		The first single, "Fast as You Can", was fairly popular and received moderate radio and video airplay.
		It charted within the top twenty on the U.S. Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and became Apple's first top forty hit on the UK Singles Chart.

		In fact, even when I was very sceptical because of the unnecessary long title (after all, these days may 'artists' do such ridiculous things to get both media and audience's attention and sell their records), I have been reading some reviews that qualified this record good or excellent.
		The pros of this record are, among others, the fact that the sound got more complex and mature (and even a bit more daring).

		Instrumentally, Apple didn't do much more than add atmosphere (the song's really too simple to withstand much messing around without falling apart), but her vocals added a new jazz influence, playing around with the melody and the rhythm.

		I probably shouldn't be so cynical, though, since Apple's muses may not have given her label many options (the album's opening song has a chorus that declares "You're all I need" while the singer sounds tormented beyond belief just by making such an admission).
