  Whisker Browser
The goal of the Whisker Browser is to provide a simple and intuitive way to view the contents of multiple classes and multiple methods simultaneously, while using screen real estate efficiently and not requiring a lot of window moving/resizing.
Whisker has the concept of a "class pane", which tries to summarize *everything* that makes up a particular class, without hiding anything at a given time.
This is a Whisker screenshot which has a layout with the class categories and object hierarchy on the left, a column (stack) of classes in the middle, and a column of methods on the right.

Whisker (metallurgy) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Metal whiskers differ from metallic dendrites in several respects; dendrites are fern-shaped, and grow across the surface of the metal, while metal whiskers are hair like and project at a right-angle to the surface.
Whiskers can sometimes form on the underside of zinc electroplated floor tiles, and these can become airborne when the tiles are disturbed, usually during maintenance.
Whiskers over 20 µm in length were observed on gold-plated surfaces and noted in a 2003 NASA internal memorandum.

The world through a rat’s whiskers
A whisker is a long hair like all others on the body: a column of dead cells that grows from a follicle in the skin.
The barrel cortex is arranged like a map: each whisker's nerve goes to one spot in the cortex (called a barrel, because of its shape), and the spatial layout of the barrel cortex reflects the spatial layout of the whiskers (Woosley and Van der Loos 1970).
This whisker movement rate depends on what the rat is doing: rats move their whiskers in bigger, slower sweeps when exploring (about 4-6 sweeps per second), and in smaller, faster sweeps while sitting quietly (about 7-12 sweeps per second) (Fanselow and Nicholelis 1999).

Tin Whiskers were a plague at first in the 60s but they were quickly minimized by adding some Pb to the "tinning" and in adopting processing parameters that minimized whisker growth opportunities.
Also she mentioned that whiskers became a bigger problem not just because Pb was eliminated as a coating additive but because much finer pitch leads are used today compared with decades ago so even a small whisker can do in a system.

 SiC Whisker-Toughened Ceramics
SiC whiskers used for reinforcement are discontinuous, rod- or needle-shaped fibers in the size range of 0.1 to 1 µm in diameter and 5 to 100 µm in length.
The major market for the whiskers was to be for reinforcing metal matrix composites as had been done in the past.
One of the keys to the behavior of SiC whisker reinforced composites, is that for this mechanism to operate, debonding along the crack-whisker interface must occur during crack propagation and allow the whiskers to bridge the crack in its wake.

Although there is no generally accepted test specification, several manufacturers comprising the iNEMI Tin Whisker Users Group (http://www.nemi.org) have come up with recommendations that pertain to tin whisker testing requirements along with acceptance criteria for the evaluation of devices with tin finishes.

The risk is here now, and unless decisive action is taken soon to fund development and implementation of a strategic action plan to devise short-term stopgap procedures and medium-term investigation of mitigation alternatives, serious consequences are inevitable.

In addition, Tukey's original formulation lacked horizontal crossbars, extended the whiskers all the way to the extreme data points, and drew an unfilled dot at the maximum and a hatched horizontal strip at the minimum, as illustrated above (left figure).
A variation extended the whiskers only out to some arbitrary minimum and maximum values and identifying the outliers with explicit labels (Tukey 1977, p.
Tukey also considered an additional variation in which the outliers are indicated separately and whiskers are dashed, ending with dashed crossbars at "adjacent values" (values closest to but still inside the inner fences).
