	Whiskey in the Jar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		"Whiskey in the Jar" is a famous Irish traditional song about a highwayman (usually in the Kerry mountains), who is betrayed by his wife or lover.
		As evidence for this, Lomax cites the similarities between "Whiskey in the Jar" and John Gay's The Beggar's Opera, which dates to 1728.
		"Whiskey in the Jar" is the tale of a highwayman who, after robbing a military or government official, is betrayed by a woman named Jenny or Molly; whether she is his wife or sweetheart is not made clear.

		The band were formed in 1989 by founder members Phil Taylor and Steve Bird who performed as a duo for eighteen months on the Manchester Irish pub scene.
		By the mid-nineties, the band were performing regular concerts together with Lancashire's longest established folk group "Blue Water Folk", led by Ian Grime, under the heading of "Whiskey and Water", the title of the bands fourth tape release.
		Ian Grime became a full member of Whiskey in the Jar in 1996 upon the departure of Sean Moran.

		Yes, I know it's by a well-known Metal group, but it actually fits the Green Man motif as it's got a cover of 'Whiskey in the Jar' that's among the best I've ever heard.
		Ahhh, it was Thin Lizzy that inspired them as it's say their version was 'originally released by Thin Lizzy in 1972 as a UK single from the album Garage, INC.' Spike, dig out that copy of the 7" incher Thin Lizzy did of 'Whiskey in the Jar'/'Black boys in the Corner'.
		I've heard more covers of 'Whiskey in the Jar' than I can possibly ever 'member, and this is by far the best of those I've heard.
