Topic: White Man Runs Him

NFL.com - Prospect Profiles   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
White is a junior who came out early for the NFL Draft and is finally getting the publicity he did not get at USC because he shared the backfield with Reggie Bush.
Overall, White may not have the athleticism and the big play ability of Reggie Bush, but he is going to be a good starting running back in the NFL who will be able to handle 25-plus carries a game and will consistently gain yards after contact.
White has good natural flexibility, but tends to be an upright runner most of the time before contact -- he can bend his knees and lower his shoulder to deliver a hard initial blow to the tackler and has the strength to knock him backward.

Written and produced by White with Gerald Levert and his musical partner Tony Nicholas, the song not only found favor with White's existing audience, it had enough contemporary appeal to win the pop and soul legend some new fans, giving White's recording career a much-needed jolt.
White also used the services of other current musical hit makers for the project: Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis cowrote "I Only Want to Be with You" and "Come On," a pair of strong tunes for the album.
Considered White's 90's "comeback", although the singer had continuously recorded and released albums since his 70's peak, "The Icon is Love" introduced a new generation to the baritone crooner.

ZNet Commentary: Inventing Jayson Blair: Reflections on White Privilege and Hypocrisy
After all, when white men ripped off the Savings and Loan industry, costing taxpayers a few hundred billion in bailout funds, no one suggested that we should be wary of hiring white men to run banks: even white men like Silverado’s Neil Bush, brother of W., who had no prior experience in the field.
When white men commit major corporate fraud (think Enron) no one suggests that we should eradicate the workings of the old boy’s networks that are so instrumental in getting white guys top executive jobs in the first place.
This is the essence of white privilege: the privilege to rise or fall without implicating your group in the process or calling into question the mechanisms that brought you to your current station.

Medicine Crow's great-uncle, or "grandfather in the Indian way," was White Man Runs Him, an imposing 6-foot-6 warrior who was one of the six Crow scouts with Custer that day and survived only because Custer released the scouts from duty.

In the book, Medicine Crow says the Crows' friendly ties with the whites were based on a 100-year-old tribal prophecy that resistance meant eventual disaster and an 1825 treaty that was consummated by the ritual touching of a knife blade to tongues.

In Ava’s Man, Bragg’s masterful storytelling and vivid portraiture combine to create an incredibly moving and truly unforgettable tale that is at once a deeply poignant form of hero worship, and yet also a clear-eyed, two-fisted, no bullshit account of how poor Southerners survived the Great Depression.
He tells of having been virtually abandoned by a violent, alcoholic father, and of being perpetually haunted by the unspeakable pain and self-sacrifice that his mother endured for the sake of her children.
In Charlie Bundrum, Bragg seems to have found the perfect blend of his own mother’s indomitable yet tender love for her family, and that yet untamed (and yet unnamed) source of vitality from which all of the excesses of Southern manhood flow—for good or for ill: “Men drank.
